Flights steer to SFO

There will be daily United Express service between Kelowna International Airport and San Francisco starting Sept. 20.

North Okanagan residents can soon wing their way to the city by the bay.

There will be daily United Express service between Kelowna International Airport and San Francisco starting Sept. 20.

“This new service to SFO will provide our travellers better connection points to many more U.S. cities,” said Sam Samaddar, Kelowna International Airport director.

“The SFO terminal also provides travellers better connection points and closer walking distances from International to domestic gates. In addition, there are shuttles from SFO to each of the L.A. area airports including LAX, Burbank, L.A. Ontario International and John Wayne.”

The Okanagan tourism industry believes the new link to San Francisco will be beneficial.

“We at Sparkling Hill Resort are excited that United Airlines will fly daily direct flights between SFO and YLW as the new route connects Silicon Valley with a desirable new exciting incentive destination that has it all – world class spa and golf in wine country,” said Hans-Peter Mayr, Sparkling Hill CEO.

“Additionally, the new route connects health conscious San Francisco to a new leading European-inspired health resort in North America.”

The new San Francisco flights replace the scheduled service from YLW to LAX, which will end Sept. 19. There will however be intermittent LAX to YLW non-stop service from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4 on Saturday and Sundays and then Saturdays only Jan. 31 to Feb. 7 to accommodate the ski travellers.
