The Nanoose Bay Community Cupboard’s ‘Thanks for Giving’ Food Drive began this week, when brown paper Quality Foods bags were mailed to every mailbox in Nanoose.
On Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nanoose Bay residents can return their bag full of nonperishable food items to the Nanoose Quality Foods store or to Nanoose Place. Coastal Community Credit Union staff, along with the Nanoose Bay Lions and Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department members will be on hand to help. For residents who are away for the Thanksgiving weekend, food items may be dropped off at the Nanoose branch of Coastal Community Credit Union, Nanoose Place or Nanoose’s Quality Foods from October 2-5.
“Sometimes people think only single parents use food banks,” says food bank manager Charlie Brucker. “But all sorts of people need our help. We have seniors, college students, and people with chronic health conditions who visit each month.”
