Former North Saanich teacher admits sexual relationship with student in 1970s

A retired teacher agreed never to teach again after admitting to sexual relationship in Terrace in the early 1970s.

TERRACE – A retired teacher who taught in Terrace 40 years ago has agreed never to teach again after admitting that he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student here in the early-1970s.

Kerry Allan Wing was reported by a fellow teacher in July 2015 and then by a district superintendent a month later. He admitted his guilt last month in a consent resolution agreement with the B.C. teacher regulation branch.

“In the early 1970s, when Wing was teaching at the school [in the Coast Mountains School District], he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student at the school,” the agreement reads.

That relationship occurred at a secondary school during his time of employment with this school district, which they said was between September 1973 and June 1977.

Wing admits in the agreement that he had a sexual relationship with a student and that it was a professional misconduct.

As consequence, Wing has been reprimanded by the branch, the information publicly posted, and he agreed never to teach again.

This agreement comes three years after Wing retired from teaching in July 2012.

Wing started his career in Terrace teaching phys-ed, music, and social studies in Sept. 1973, and spent a total of 14 years in the north, according to the Peninsula News Review published upon his retirement from teaching in 1972.

Eight of those years were spent as principal at Kispiox Community Band School near Hazelton.

During the last 25 years or so of his career, he has been in the Saanich area on Vancouver Island.

He spent two years helping start up Láu,welnew tribal school with the Tsawout First Nation there.

Then he was a teacher, vice-principal and then principal in Saanich at Royal Oak Middle School, Bayside Middle School, and North Saanich Middle School.
