A former North Westside director has died.

Aaron Dinwoodie, 54, died Tuesday in a Vancouver hospital after a short battle with cancer.

“Aaron was truly a dedicated and passionate representative for residents of the Westside electoral area throughout his many years of service,” said Robert Hobson, Regional District of Central Okanagan chairperson.

Dinwoodie was first elected as a regional board director in 1996 and he served until 2007. He was also president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities from 2004 to 2005.

He unsuccessfully ran for North Westside director in 2011.

After that, he returned to private business, spending time in the Philippines, where he had a wife, young child and an export business. He is also survived by children from a previous marriage.
