One resident has set it upon herself to raise $1,500 for the B.C. Lung Association. She’s doing it by riding 200 km in the Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath, an annual fundraising event that has cyclists riding from White Rock to Cultus Lake and back in September.
It’s Jen Lewin’s third time doing the ride.
“It’s a really fun thing to do,” says the local music teacher, who sees the event as something the community can get behind. It also allows her to test her physical fitness.
Lewin is holding a fundraising dinner at the Mission Station Grill on Wednesday. Local musicians will keep the mood high with a mix of classic pop and rock.
In addition to a 50/50 draw and raffle, the silent auction will feature services from hotel getaways to spa days to music lessons.
The fundraiser will be on Aug. 14, at 4–8 p.m. The $14 admission includes a burger-and-fries dinner. Exactly half of each ticket will go straight to the B.C. Lung Association.
Lewin will complete her two-day cycle ride on September 7 to 8, 2013.
