The Funtastic Sports Society has been recognized for its contribution to the economy.
The slowpitch tournament and music festival was presented with the community sports tourism award at the Thompson-Okanagan Tourism Industry Summit in Chase Tuesday.
“We couldn’t be happier with this recognition,” said Jim McEwan, society executive director.
The award recognizes a business or organization that has demonstrated a community partnership between sport and tourism which has resulted in increased tourism revenues.
Mike Benedek, owner of RTown Okanagan, nominated Funtastic for its contribution to promote and move sports tourism forward in the North Okanagan.
“The Funtastic organization has not only focused on hosting the largest sport event in the region, but has continues to be innovative through the management of the event and to promote the many sights and activities for visitors to do in our community,” he said.
As part of its activities, the society works with local tourism stakeholders to create partnerships.
“This award speaks volumes to the efforts of the community as a whole, and to the Funtastic board and volunteers, who’ve worked tirelessly to ensure the annual event is inclusive of the community and continues to be a favored destination to the many visitors from the lower mainland and Alberta,” said Brett Kirkpatrick, society president.
