The race for Vernon-Monashee is picking up.
Keli Westgate will represent the Green Party in the May provincial election.
“I believe Vernon-Monashee is ready for a fresh perspective and some new leadership,” said Westgate, who is the sales and marketing manager at Spa Hills Compost.
“As a mother of a school-aged child and the daughter of senior parents who live here, I am very motivated to build a valley that works for us all, where health is a top priority, and people can feel supported by their community when they need help and where all of us chip in and work together to improve all of our lives. I hope to inspire others to action, especially those that have felt left behind by the status quo.”
She is a director with the Sustainable Environment Network Society and has been involved with O’Keefe Ranch. She has also worked in the communications industry and the film sector and was a workshop facilitator for the provincial government on gang and youth violence prevention.
“Keli is a welcome addition to the B.C. Green team,” said Andrew Weaver, Green Party leader.
“She is a dynamic professional with experience in multiple fields that will be invaluable in the B.C. Legislature.”
The other declared candidates in Vernon-Monashee are incumbent Liberal MLA Eric Foster and Don Jefcoat, with the Libertarian Party. The NDP have not selected a candidate yet.
