Head-on collision south of Nanaimo sends two drivers to hospital

NANAIMO – Drivers of both vehicles sent to hospital following weekend crash in Cedar.

A head-on crash in Cedar on the weekend sent the drivers of both vehicles involved to hospital.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the collision happened in the 1800 block of Woobank Road Sunday at about 6:40 p.m. when a Plymouth Voyager minivan, driven by a 43-year-old man, and a Honda CRV, driven by a 51-year-old man, both from  Nanaimo, crashed head-on.

Firefighters had to extricate both drivers from their vehicles and the section of Woobank Road was closed while first responders dealt with the wreck and police investigated the crash site.

The extent of the drivers’ injuries are unknown but the driver of the minivan was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and is listed in stable condition, police said.

Two children, 11 and 8, in the Honda had no reported serious injuries.

Police believe alcohol contributed to the crash and are continuing their investigation.
