Heat wave continues, but no local records fall

This weekend may have been warm, but Abbotsford didn’t break any records, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald.

The mercury topped out at 31.6 C at Abbotsford International Airport on Sunday. That was short of Abbotsford’s all-time high for June 5 of 33.1 C set on 2003. Saturday’s high of 30.1 C fell short of the record of 31.6 C set in 2009. And Monday’s heat fell well short of the June 6 record of 34 C set in 2003. While Abbotsford didn’t break any records, 26 communities did around B.C.

After a record-hot month of April, May was another warm one, with the average temperature of 14.8 C nearly two degrees higher than average and the sixth warmest for the month on record. May was also the third abnormally warm month in a row.

MacDonald said temperatures should remain above average for the next couple months before cooling in the second half of the year.
