Vernon’s 2013 Woman of the Year is Ruth Hoyte.
Hoyte, owner of A.E. Berry Insurance, was recognized during a ceremony held by Vernon Women In Business at the Prestige Hotel Thursday.
“Ruth is a bigger than life matriarch, business colleague, community advocate and
patron of the arts. Her smile lights up a room, her passion swirls around us like one
of her colourful belly dancing scarves,” said nominator Lorna Robb.
Hoyte has been president of Vernon Women in Business and the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Vernon Association, the Vernon Dance Society, and the North Okanagan Employment Enhancement Society.
She has served as a director on the Centreville Neighborhood Committee for the Gateway Shelter, the Queen Silver Star Excellence Program, the Vernon Winter Carnival Society and the Vernon Art Gallery Board. Provincially, she serves on the Insurance Brokers Association of B.C.
