The B.C. government says 27,000 people stayed on the phone for the first of Finance Minister Kevin Falcon’s harmonized sales tax “town halls” in Surrey last Wednesday night.
A second call in the Peace River region attracted about 5,000 participants.
The regional telephone conference calls are to continue in the next two weeks, calling listed home phones in each region for an hour-long question and answer session on the tax, and what happens if voters reject it in a mail-in ballot in June.
The session for Langley is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. The date may be changed if there is a Canucks’ game May 10.
New dates postponed meetings will be posted on the government’s website, www.hstinbc.ca
