Hydrants opened to lower water levels in reservoir

Water department workers in Summerland opened fire hydrants earlier this month to lower the level in a reservoir.

Heavy rain on the night of July 8 and morning of July 9 raised the water level in Summerland reservoirs.

In addition, a sensor issue at the water treatment plant led to concerns about the amount of water in one of the municipality’s reservoirs. The reservoir, near the water treatment plant, is used to control the amount of water in the plant.

While that reservoir was not overflowing, the level was higher than usual.

“With the amount of rain we had, there was next to no demand for normal consumption,” said Kevin Larson, water treatment plant chief operator for the municipality.
