B.C. Hydro is marking its 50th anniversary with an open house in Vernon.
On Saturday, bring your family and friends to a free event complete with bucket truck rides, children’s activities and experts who will share information and answer questions on smart meters, public safety and programs that protect fish and wildlife.
The 50th anniversary is also being commemorated with a book.
Entitled Voices of Two Rivers, the book recounts stories of B.C. Hydro’s history from people who have lived near and worked on the projects that helped to shape the province’s hydroelectric system that’s still depended on today.
“It captures compelling stories from an era that will now, thankfully, not be easily forgotten,” said Dave Cobb, B.C. Hydro president.
“It tells this story, not just through a chronology of policies and leaders, but also through the people who lived near and worked on the projects on the Peace and Columbia rivers.”
All the proceeds from the book sales will go to the Miracle Million Campaign for B.C. Children’s Hospital.
The open house takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the B.C. Hydro office at 1401 Kalamalka Lake Rd.
