RCMP officers have been dealing with a rash of impaired drivers in the Lumby area.
Over the past three weeks, at least six drivers have been charged.
One was caught April 3 at Highway 6 and Mountainview Road while another was caught on Highway 6 in Lavington on April 1.
Members of North Okanagan Traffic Services processed another three over the Easter weekend, and, on April 10, another driver was arrested as he parked in front of his home on Grandview Avenue in the mid-afternoon.
The man had already been arrested for drunk driving back in September, and that charge is still before the courts.
“In addition, he was already prohibited from driving due to a lengthy driving history,” said Lumby RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce.
Stolen vehicle
Lumby officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from Catt Avenue April 6, although it appears the vehicle was stolen the night before, sometime after 1 a.m.
The silver 2000 Audi was found two days later about four kilometres up the Noble Canyon Forest Service Road in Coldstream.
“The vehicle had been burned and was reduced to a mere shell,” said Proce. “The car was also shot full of holes from what appeared to be a shotgun.”

Keep valuables out of sight
The police would like to remind residents to lock up vehicles and do not leave valuables in plain sight.
This was a harsh reminder for two Lumby residents on April 10.
“The two were walking on the salmon trail in the evening when they actually witnessed their vehicle being entered and a purse being stolen by a thief,” said Proce. “Unfortunately in this case, they had left a window open and the purse in plain sight.”
The two saw a suspect drive away and his vehicle was later spotted in downtown Lumby.
“Our officers were able to locate the suspect on foot near Faulkner Avenue and he was arrested,” said Proce.
A 36-year-old Lumby resident has been released from custody to attend court later in June.
Tires taken
Lumby RCMP received a report April 12 of a theft of four new Cooper brand, 16-inch tires from a residence in the 1800 block of Creighton Valley Road. Police are asking for the public’s assistance regarding the theft.
Vandalism to loader
A front-end loader belonging to JPW Road Maintenance, parked in the gravel pit on Trinity Valley Road, had its windows smashed out.
The incident was reported April 13.
“Police will increase patrols in the area and are looking for any information from the public in helping to locate those responsible,” said Proce.
