Improper left turn leads to crash

Woman slightly injured and facing a traffic ticket - and a wrecked vehicle

Turning left in front of another vehicle is never a good idea, but doing it when you’re driving a Toyota Tercel and the other vehicle is a truck is particularly unfortunate.

That’s the situation a Qualicum Beach woman found herself in last week while making a turn off Highway 19A onto Corfield Street just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Oceanside RCMP Sergeant Darrell Robertson said police found the car with extensive damage to the passenger side and a Ford F-250 pickup truck with only minor damage.

The driver and lone occupant of the Tercel, a 20-year-old Qualicum Beach woman, was rushed to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for evaluation. The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old Victoria man and his seven-year-old female passenger both escaped injury and were able to drive from the scene. The Tercel had to be towed and its driver was issued with a traffic ticket for making an improper left turn.
