A kitchen fire that sent a 53-year-old Lake Country man to hospital Friday revealed a marijuana grow operation.

Emergency crews were called to a residential fire in the 9700 block of Highway 97 at approximately 10 a.m. Friday. The fire apparently started in the kitchen and then spread throughout the interior of the home. The man received burns to his face and hair but did not require medical attention.

A 200-plant marijuana grow operation was located inside the residence and the preliminary investigation confirms that the man had the appropriate licences from Health Canada. The house has been deemed uninhabitable by the bylaw office due to the fire and effects of the grow.

There is no indication that the fire was related to the operation of the marijuana grow-op.
