A 24 year old Lake Country man faces a number of charges after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was allegedly attempting to evade police.
On Dec. 6, at 12:30 a.m., the Kelowna RCMP were conducting a road check on Springfield Road at Leckie Road. It is alleged a black Eagle Talon failed to stop for police and the incident ultimately ended when a pedestrian was struck by the suspect vehicle on Dundee Road at the intersection of Dundas Road.
“The Eagle Talon impacted a fire hydrant after striking the pedestrian and came to a rest,” said Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark. “Police officers immediately attended to the pedestrian and called for an ambulance as he appeared to have suffered serious injuries.”
The 41-year-old Kelowna man was taken to hospital in critical condition.
A 24-year-old Lake Country man, a 34-year-old Kamloops man and a 26-year-old Kelowna woman were taken into custody without incident and the Lake Country man was later held for court.
“The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. was notified and immediately asserted jurisdiction over the investigation into the actions of the police while the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit continued the concurrent criminal investigation,” said Clark.
The investigation is ongoing.
Nathan Daniel Fahl has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop at accident with vehicle, flight causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and operating a motor vehicle while disqualified.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6, 2014.
