The Supreme Court of Canada has granted a Langley man’s appeal related to drug and firearms charges.
Brendan Paterson was sentenced in 2012 to four an a half years in prison for nine charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, in relation to an incident five years earlier.
Langley RCMP had executed a search warrant at his apartment in Walnut Grove and found loaded handguns, a bulletproof vest and drugs.
Paterson later appealed his conviction to the B.C. of Appeal, saying the judge should not have admitted evidence that police had seized during their search of his home. That was denied.
In a ruling Friday, the country’s top court set aside those convictions and acquitted him of the charges. As usual, the court did not release reasons for its decision.
