Lawyers representing Abbotsford’s homeless are meeting with city representatives and a judge today in New Westminster to ask for a trial date to be set as soon as possible to discuss the city’s bylaw against camping in parks.
In December, the court granted the city an injunction to remove a homeless protest camp from Jubilee Park. The city plans to ask the court to grant an order allowing the city’s to enforce its bylaws against camping or erecting a tent in any park in Abbotsford.
Pivot Legal Society is representing the homeless, and will argue that the city’s bylaw is unconstitutional.
Today’s meeting was related to scheduling and various pre-trial steps, and a trial date is not yet known.
