Local sets sights on B.C.’s eye health

There’s a Vernon presence on the B.C. Association of Optometrists board.

Dr. Meghan Ashton, with Irwin, Warner and Ashton Optometrists, has been elected to a two-year term with the provincial organization.

Ashton graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2006, and she is originally from Kamloops. She has had a practice in Vernon since 2006.

The association’s goal is to help British Columbians protect their eye health.

“Most vision loss is irreversible, so prevention is key,” said Surjinder Sahota, the group’s new president. “That means getting regular eye exams by a B.C. doctor of optometry to monitor your eye health, and seeking a proper diagnosis and treatment any time you experience a vision change.”
