Local government liquor store employees Krista Szymczak, relief assistant-shop steward and picket captain, Michael Wienecke, auxiliary clerk, Ruth Vermette, store manager and KC Vermette, (whom by the way wants strike-dog pay) are joined by Katie Waterfield, customer service representative at Service B.C. during the province wide British Columbia Government Employees Union (BCGEU) strike day held on Wednesday, Sept 5.
Picket Captain, Krista Szymczak said that employees have been in negotiations since March of this year. “We haven’t had a raise in four years, she said, and we are looking for job security.”
The local employees support the union’s decision to strike and say if there are no results there will be more strike days to come.
Part of the current labour issues with the province include plans to privatize wholesale and retail outlets of the BC Liquor Distribution Branches.
