Rossland’s RED Mountain Resort reportedly stands alone among Canadian ski destinations, having copped a pair of prestigious honours during the World Snow Awards, Nov. 1 in London, as publicized by a related Nov. 15 press release from Kootenay Rockies Tourism.
“Most Improved North American Resort” and “Best Upcoming Resort” are 2013 titles which can be rightfully be enjoyed on the mountain, and across the region and province. The solo Canadian entity to be so honoured, Red Mountain was also the only multiple winner.
The resort’s season opens December 14 when it will showcase the huge expansion project on Grey Mountain, meaning that, in addition to the ski area’s Red and Granite peaks, skiers can now access one more stellar peak, Grey Mountain by chair lift — with 360-degree skiing off the top.
“These two awards are absolutely fantastic,” Erik Kalacis, Red Mountain Resort’s Vice President, Business Development told the Castlegar News. “These accolades will certainly create more awareness about RED in the UK and European markets and attract more destination skiers to our region.”
Kalacis feels the kudos are well-earned. “We have worked very hard over the last eight years in developing our ski-in ski-out lodging,” he added, “enhancing our skier services and now introducing new terrain and chairlift on Grey. This recognition is greatly appreciated as we prepare to host more guests than ever and continue to build momentum in what is shaping up to be a great season.”
