Man killed after crashes off Inland Island Highway

A 42-year-old Campbell River man died following an early morning accident Wednesday in Courtenay

A 42-year-old Campbell River man is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Courtenay early this morning.

According to Comox Valley RCMP, around 2 a.m., blue Ford Aerostar van went off the Inland Island Highway near Piercy Road and crashed down a treed embankment.

One of the occupants, a 30-year-old woman, was able to flag down a passing motorist and called for help.

When Comox Valley emergency responders arrived they found the victim who had been ejected from the vehicle and was found about five feet away from the van.

He had sustained severe head trauma and was dead at the scene. The man’s name was not released.

The woman was taken to hospital for minor injuries and later released.

The Comox Valley RCMP Traffic Section are working alongside a traffic analyst, and the B.C. Coroner’s office to determine a cause for the collision.

Victims Services has also been involved in both the Comox Valley and Campbell River.
