The association that represents Vancouver Island communities is looking for members and Mayor Andy Adams wants his council to apply.
The Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC) currently has four vacancies on its executive as a result of councillors not being re-elected in November’s civic elections.
Adams, at the Dec. 16 council meeting, encouraged councillors to think about standing for nomination to the executive.
“I think it would be very beneficial to have a representative from Campbell River submit their name for nomination,” Adams said. “So I would ask members of council to consider that over the holiday season whether they want to put their name up for consideration.”
Adams noted that the deadline for AVICC nominations is Monday, Feb. 23.
Any nominations to the AVICC executive would need to be in the form of a resolution and would have to be passed by city council.
Former Campbell River councillor Claire Moglove served on the AVICC for several years.
She was first elected to the executive in 2011 and she also served on the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) executive.
The AVICC was founded in 1950 and is the longest established area association under the UBCM.
It has a membership of 51 municipalities and regional districts that stretch from the Central Coast Regional District to the tip of Vancouver Island and includes Powell River and the Sunshine Coast.
The Association deals with issues and concerns that affect its member municipalities.
