Metal thieves are being fingered as the cause of a power outage in Errington on Thursday.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said police responding to a dangerous situation at the end of Dunn Road in Errington at 10:30 a.m. found a live BC Hydro pole on the ground.
“Upon further investigation it was apparent that the pole had been deliberately cut down with a chain saw,” he said, noting it appeared the pole was cut by culprits attempting to steal copper and other metals.
The felling of the pole resulted in the loss of power to a nearby trailer park. However, BC Hydro was able to quickly restore power to those who had been affected.
Noting that downed power poles can be extremely dangerous, Foreman warned anyone who comes upon one to keep their distance and call 9-1-1.
Anyone with information about whoever was responsible for this crime, is asked to call the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
