Miller to speak on salmon genome

Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers AGM to feature salmon researcher

Are sea lice responsible for declining salmon stocks on B.C.’s west coast or is it warm water, over-fishing or maybe something else?

The jury may still be out, but members of the Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers will get an opportunity to gain some insight into the issue when they hold their annual general meeting on Sat., March 31.

The meeting, slated to kick off at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen’s United Church on Village Way, will feature special guest speaker Dr. Kristi Miller, who is the head of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo.

Miller will present research from her genomics program on wild salmon and discuss her ideas about what may be limiting salmon survival.
