Minor football commits to raise funds for sports complex

First advance poll for borrowing referendum will be held Wednesday

Plans for a Greater Vernon sports complex have garnered the financial support of a local sports group.

The Vernon Minor Football Association says it will raise $18,000 over four years for football uprights for the facility proposed next to Okanagan College.

“Vernon Minor Football recognizes the value of this facility, both for our organization and the community” said Ed Huber, association president.

“This is one way that we can demonstrate our support for this project.”

On April 6, Greater Vernon residents will be asked if they support borrowing up to $7.5 million to construct the facility, which would include a sports field and running track.

The first advance poll for the referendum is Wednesday and it will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Schubert Centre, the Coldstream municipal office and the Regional District of North Okanagan office.

There will also be an advance poll at those same locations April 3 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

General referendum day is April 6 and the polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Priest Valley Gym, Coldstream Elementary, BX Elementary and Ellison Elementary.
