It was an unusual Sunday afternoon on Saanich streets as police responded to five separate car crashes in a four hour time span.
No serious injuries were reported among the drivers and passengers in the 11 vehicles involved in the collisions.
The first incident happened at noon when a Ford Ranger struck a concrete barrier and flipped on its side after exiting Vanalman Avenue onto the Pat Bay Highway. Slick roads are thought to be a factor, acting staff Sgt. Scott Treble said.
The 59-year-old driver of the truck was taken to hospital with a minor hand injury.
The second crash happened 45 minutes later when two people suffered facial injuries after the Mazda sedan they were in struck a deer on the Pat Bay Highway near Royal Oak.
Then, at 1 p.m., a four vehicle collision occurred on Shelbourne Street at Feltham Road. Two of the drivers suffered whiplash-like injuries. One person was charged with speeding relative to the wet road conditions.
The fourth of the five incidents happened at 2:30 p.m. in the northbound lane of the Pat Bay Highway near Sayward Road. Three vehicles were involved in a collision that sent one pregnant driver to hospital as a precautionary measure even though she did not suffer an apparent injury. Another driver was charged with following too closely.
The final collision of the hectic afternoon involved two cars in the intersection of Gorge Road West and Donald Street at 3:30 p.m. A seven-year-old girl who was a passenger in one of the vehicles was taken to hospital with minor injuries to her lower back.
