On June 9 police received a report of an individual who was attempting to buy an item over the Internet. A potential buyer contacted the seller and expressed interest in purchasing the item. The buyer then sent the seller a fake bank draft for a substantially larger amount of money. The buyer asked the seller to cash the cheque and return the difference to them.
“This is a common scam and thankfully the seller did not fall for this one,” said Wagnell. “If you are in a similar situation and you feel something is not right then trust your instincts.”
