A motorcyclist was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital after a serious crash Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. near the Little River ferry terminal.
Police say the man on the motorcycle was riding at a high rate of speed on Waveland Road. He was in the process of passing a vehicle when he saw a car pulling onto the roadway. He dropped his bike then slid several hundred metres until he hit the car. The bike kept sliding before landing in a ditch.
Police said the motorcyclist was conscious but in a lot of pain. His injuries are “significant but undetermined,” according to medics, who are concerned there are further injuries that are not visible.
Neighbours describe Waveland Road as a problem area for speeders.
“I live just around the corner and they do this all the time,” said Dale Gavel, who suggests more policeĀ patrols are needed on the road. “Unfortunately there’s a lot of bikes and they go way too fast in this area. I’m surprised they haven’t hit a deer or hurt themselves by hitting a deer.”
The road was closed for several hours while a crash analyst worked at the scene.
