Motorcycles and kids on roofs were common themes for police calls this week, Staff Sgt. Darryl Hammond said on Monday. Creston RCMP responded to a total of 72 calls for service from June 13-19, he said.
June 13
•Police were asked to locate a possibly missing person. They discovered he had lost his cellphone and was unable to contact family members.
•Police fielded an inquiry about peace bonds.
•Parties involved in threats and harassments on Sixth Avenue North got help in the form of police mediation.
•Police were asked to check on the well-being of a person upset because he couldn’t get income assistance.
•Coins were stolen when a vehicle was entered on 24th Avenue North.
•A red bottle found on 10th Avenue North was determined to be part of the loot stolen from a house a week earlier.
June 14
•A U-Haul trailer was found abandoned in the bush in the Blazed Creek area.
•A ticket was issued after police received a complaint about open liquor in a vehicle at Canyon Street and 16th Avenue.
•A fence was damaged in the 800 block of Canyon Street when a driver attempted to avoid another vehicle.
•Police assisted another detachment by notifying next of kin in the Gray Creek area.
June 15
•A female voice crying “I love you” could be heard on a 911 call but police were unable to track the source of the call.
•A prohibited driver was found in a check stop on Erickson Road. He was released with a court appearance scheduled.
June 16
•“They are still illegal,” Hammond said about marijuana grow-ops after a small one was destroyed near Crawford Bay.
•Police received a complaint about a possible fireworks display near Wagner Road.
•A Prince Charles Secondary School teacher is in hot water after riding a motorcycle through the school’s hallways. Hammond said the stunt was pulled in other schools in the province on the same day.
While the teacher could possibly be charged with something as serious as criminal negligence, because he endangered others, “this is a matter of finding a more appropriate charge,” Hammond said.
School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Supt. Jeff Jones said on Friday that, based on the findings of the investigation, the employee could face suspension or dismissal. It is reported that the teacher in question had already planned his retirement for the end of the school year.
•While investigating video of a break-in to a compound in the 4000 block of Highway 3, police discovered a connection to another break and entry.
•Police responded to a complaint of an assault by an employee on Erickson Road, but the employer didn’t want charges pursued. The perpetrator was also the subject of an unwanted guest complaint on Eighth Avenue South shortly after.
•A driver from northern B.C. was headed south when he was stopped on Highway 3A at Crusher Road and found to have been consuming alcohol. He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
•Teens found on the roof of a business on Canyon Street at 11th Avenue North were warned.
June 17
•A vehicle backed into another on Erickson Road, causing minor damage.
•Police received a complaint of workplace threats on Cook Street.
•A while after receiving a report of two children not in car seats in a moving vehicle on Canyon Street, another call came from the 16000 block of Highway 3A that the same vehicle may have been involved in a crash involving a pedestrian. An 11-year-old boy ran out onto the highway and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. He was airlifted by helicopter to a Kelowna hospital for treatment.
•A suspect has been identified on video surveillance equipment after a pair of work boots was stolen from a Collis Road business.
•Police attended to an ongoing family issue in Kitchener.
•Males on an ATV were reported to be harassing train crew members near Yahk.
•Police located a possibly missing person in Crawford Bay, learning he had left after a fallout with his parents.
•In a check stop set up on Highway 3A near Sirdar, 14 violation tickets were issued.
•Kids reported to be on the Erickson Elementary School roof were gone when police arrived.
•Damage to a door was reported at a Canyon Street business.
June 18
•A motorcyclist collided with a deer on 38th Street. The former sustained a broken ankle and the latter died.
•A yellow bike left in a driveway on Erickson Road was reported missing.
•Police received a report that shots have been fired on several consecutive mornings near Huscroft Road.
•A vehicle collided with a deer 30 kilometres west of Creston on Highway 3.
•The owner of a vehicle abandoned at the lookout on Highway 3A near Wynndel was told to move it.
•A violation ticket added insult to injuries sustained when a motorcyclist went off Highway 3 at Wadds Road and into the ditch.
•An intoxicated female accused of being an unwanted guest at an Erickson Road residence was arrested after police found she has outstanding warrants.
•A vehicle collided with a deer near Kitchener.
•An intoxicated female was reported on 11th Avenue North.
June 19
•A coyote caused a motor vehicle accident 14 kilometres west of Creston on Highway 3.
•A driver attempting to make a turn from Vancouver Street onto Northwest Boulevard collided with a motorcycle pulling a trailer, and was issued a violation ticket.
•A wallet was reported lost on Northwest Boulevard.
•A 911 call from Elm Street was made by someone planning to dial 411.
•Youths were reported to be throwing rocks from a rock cut at vehicles on Highway 3 near the intersection with Highway 3A. The kids weren’t located, but the rocks were.
