Mount Washington to suspend winter operations Monday afternoon

Warm, wet weather forces Vancouver Island resort to shut down

Mount Washington Alpine Resort is suspending winter operations as of 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9.

A notice on the resort’s website states: “It is with regret we announce that we are unable to continue with our current winter operations. The warm, wet weather that hit the whole West Coast of North America, and every other coastal resort during the week of February 7 has finally got the best of us.

“Effective as of Monday, Feb. 9 we will put or Winter 14/15 operations on hold until further notice. We have every belief and hope that we will reopen sometime soon. While we wait for more snow to arrive we will not be issuing any refunds for passes.”

For those with a season’s pass or a 6ixpack, the notice has links that will provide more details.

In a separate Family Day message, the resort says it will operate the Hawk chair and Magic Carpets only today (Monday, Feb. 9). Alpine lift tickets will be reduced to $16.50 plus tax for adults. There will be no night skiing. The Tube Park will be open from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with passes $10.
