Mounties catch third double robbery suspect

NANAIMO – Mounties nab third suspect from double robbery.

Nanaimo Mounties have collared the third suspect from a double robbery.

The arrest was made Wednesday at about 3:30 p.m. when an RCMP Bike Unit member spotted three men involved in what looked like a drug transaction.

When he approached, two men walked off, but the third took off at a quicker pace and the foot chase was on.

The lone officer managed to grab the suspect, but during the arrest the suspect got free and ran off again.

Police caught him a short time later in Bowen Park, which was when the officer who originally attempted the arrest realized the man was the third suspect involved in the robberies of Matheson Jewellers and Fine Art and the Central Drugs store on Dufferin Crescent Dec. 4.

Nicola Antoni Skupnik, 32, has been charged with two counts of robbery and was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Thursday afternoon.
