A multi-car collision on the Pat Bay Highway caused quite a bit of damage to the cars on scene. Central Saanich police believe that a medical emergency caused one driver to lose control of his vehicle. The investigation however is still ongoing.
Central Saanich Police Chief, Les Sylven said the driver was heading north on the highway around 7 p.m. Tuesday night, July 28, when he hit a traffic sign on the side of the road, causing him to collide with another vehicle which was turning left onto East Saanich Road. The driver making the turn was then sent into oncoming traffic, causing several chain reactions with other vehicles.
The man who caused the accident continued on north to Sidney where he hit another vehicle near Beacon Avenue before he came to a stop.
Police and emergency crews were on the scene and the Pat Bay Highway near East Saanich Road was closed until around 1:30 a.m.
One of the drivers was admitted to hospital with a bone fracture, the others with minor injuries.
Sylven said that they have sent the file off to the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles who will then do a medical review on whether the man who caused the series of collisions is fit to drive.
