Nanaimo council sold city-owned land on Labieux Road property for $1.3 million.
During an open meeting last week, council passed without discussion the sale of 1.02 hectares at 1900 and 2200 Labieux Rd. to Bowen Road Developments, which plans to consolidate the city’s property with its own and redevelop, according to a city report.
Bowen Road Developments, a company affiliated with Laird Wheaton, acquired 2560 Bowen Rd. – formerly the site of Nanaimo forestry equipment company Madill – for $2.9 million in 2010. It plans to demolish the old Madill building and redevelop with a mix of buildings that includes a furniture store, auto sales and service and a seniors’ care home, a rezoning plan shows.
Council approved in principle the sale of its land adjacent to the Madill property during an in-camera meeting in April.
