Cliff Street will be home to downtown Nanaimo’s biggest infrastructure project this year.
The City of Nanaimo is replacing the drainage, sanitary sewer and water main on Cliff Street in a 1.9-million project anticipated to get underway this spring.
The work is to replace older infrastructure, as well as address capacity concerns with the storm sewer, according to Stephen Ricketts, the city’s construction manager.
The project will also include replacement of drainage, sanitary sewer and water main on Benson Street with new lighting and a sidewalk. Repaving is planned on Cliff, Benson and Skinner streets and new heritage-style lights on Skinner Street will be installed.
Ricketts hopes to put out a tender for the work this week and have a contractor in April.
Work will be scheduled to minimize affect to customers looking to access businesses from Cliff Street.
