Nanaimo man injured in crash

A Nanaimo man is in serious condition in Kelowna General Hospital following a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Revelstoke.

The 72-year-old   driver and a five-year-old boy were in a pickup truck that collided head on with a tractor-trailer at about 2 p.m. Sunday.

The boy escaped injury, but the driver suffered critical injuries requiring airlift by helicopter ambulance.

Revelstoke RCMP say pickup crossed the centre line and hit the westbound tractor-trailer.

The impact spun the truck around and flung it about five metres down an embankment on the westbound side of the road.

The driver of the tractor-trailer and his passenger were not hurt.
