Nanaimo RCMP’s Street Crimes Unit has arrested a man allegedly responsible for break-and-enters and break-in attempts in Nanaimo, Parksville and Courtenay over the past three months.
According to RCMP, thousands of dollars in electronics were stolen during the break-and-enters that targeted electronics retail stores. The Street Crimes Unit lead led the investigation with information shared by police in the three communities.
During the investigation, RCMP officers became aware the suspect was seen riding around town on a high-end Trek mountain bike believed stolen from Arrowsmith Bikes in Nanaimo and also found out where the suspect was storing stolen items. Police were able to recover about $15,000 worth of stolen property when they searched the residence Wednesday.
They also arrested a 44-year-old Nanaimo man who is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Tuesday (Aug. 4).
Police have recommended charges of break and enter, possession of break-in tools and possession of stolen property.
