Mounties have arrested a Nanaimo man for assault and found a cache of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs.
Kevin Michael Wiebe, 31, of no fixed address, was arrested by plain clothes officers Wednesday when he was spotted allegedly participating in a drug transaction near a parked vehicle on Finlayson Street.
Wiebe was arrested with the man sitting at the wheel of the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle turned up a machete, allegedly belonging to Wiebe.
Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said in an e-mail to the News Bulletin, Wiebe was at one point in the car, the machete was found near where he had been sitting and an assault allegedly involving Wiebe had taken place moments prior to his arrest.
When investigators searched Wiebe they found 44 grams of marijuana, 25 grams of powder cocaine, about 14 grams of heroin and 12 grams of crack cocaine.
Wiebe was also arrested for an alleged robbery of an individual that happened earlier in the week.
Wiebe appeared at Nanaimo provincial court Thursday to face charges of one count of assault, uttering threats, possession of marijuana, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon.
