Nanaimo police release new sketch in unsolved sex assault case

NANAIMO – Police hope composite sketches will help identify suspects of unsolved sexual assault.

Nanaimo Mounties hope a second sketch will help the public identify two suspects involved in an unsolved sexual assault case.

The assault happened May 6, between 3:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., when the victim, a 37-year-old Nanaimo woman, was approached by two men in a condominium complex on Ninth Street who invited her to have some drinks with them. She agreed and they went to a grassy area between Ninth Street and the Nanaimo Parkway.

The men allegedly became aggressive, the victim was violently sexually assaulted and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects left and the woman made her way home and police started their investigation when they were notified later that day.

One suspect is described as an aboriginal male, taller than 5-foot-7, with a heavier build, a circular tattoo on the back of his calf, who was wearing shorts and a white T-shirt.

Police released a sketch of the second suspect’s likeness Friday. He is described as a white male, in his mid to late 30s with shoulder-length hair, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 and wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and red shoes.
