Nanaimo police seek tips on suspect in robbery attempt

NANAIMO – Woman suffers minor injuries in an attempted robbery near Boundary Avenue.

A woman sustained minor injuries when a man tried to rob her as she walked home from a shopping errand Saturday.

The 38-year-old woman was walking along a wooded path from the Windward Beer and Wine Store at 1588 Boundary Ave. to Seafield Crescent at about 8:45 p.m. when a man came up behind her, grabbed her pony tail and demanded she give him all her money.

He then forced her to the ground, hit her on the head with a stick and kicked her several times.

The suspect fled without managing to steal any of the woman’s belongings and was last seen running toward Seafield Crescent.

Police searched the area and reviewed security camera footage from the beer and wine store, but weren’t able to find the suspect.

The victim did not see her attacker’s face, but described him as about six-feet tall and wearing a black or dark-blue, puffy-style three-quarter length jacket and a dark hat with a white or yellow design on the back. She said he also had a very deep masculine voice.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
