Sometimes making an arrest is as easy as knocking on the door.
On January 20, Nelson City Police received a tip of a man arriving to Nelson who had numerous warrants and was staying at a residence occupied by people he was ordered to have no contact with.
While checking the home, the man answered the door and was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants and new charges of failing to comply with his court orders.
The man appeared in court to answer to these charges.
In other police briefs, a local citizen received a suspicious phone call from a man claiming to be her son.
“He told he was in hospital and needed assistance,” says Sgt. Paul Bayes in a press release. “Being alert she told the caller she would call his mother to verify this information. The male quickly hung up the phone.”
Police believe this was likely an attempt to defraud the woman of funds.
“The Nelson Police would like to remind people to be cautious of calls of this nature as there are those that are trying impersonate family members in urgent need of funds in order to steal their money,” says Bayes.
