New anti-fraud paper bus transfers coming

B.C. Transit

B.C. Transit bus drivers will soon be handing passengers a new style of paper transfer,  designed to reduce $200,000 in fraudulent rides a year.

The new date-stamped transfers come into effect June 27 to replace alphabetized transfers being sold on the street or re-used repeatedly.

To help offset fraud, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission decide in May to increase transit taxes paid per household by $28 this year. The governing body also decided to scale back the transfer travel window from 90 to 60 minutes, and restrict the open use of transfers to a one-way trip.
