New doctors for Enderby

The doctor crunch may ease in Enderby.

A new physician is expected to begin practice before the end of August and a second doctor will arrive early in 2017.

“We are obviously excited about having more doctors in our community to serve the health needs of our citizens and surrounding area,” said Coun. Brian Schreiner, who has worked with the Interior Health Authority on a recruitment process.

The second physician, will be part of the practice ready assessment for doctors educated internationally.

“We are in the process of contract completion and arranging a clinical mentor,” said Schreiner.

“They will undergo the same thorough evaluation process as the first doctor and we have every confidence they will do well.”

There is currently one other physician in Enderby under contract with IHA as well as a private practice and a First Nations doctor.

“Early, next year Enderby will have two family physicians,” said Schreiner.

“We hope they and their families will find Enderby not only welcoming, but a place to call home as they join our community.”
