CVRD adds electronics to recycling

The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) has announced it is increasing ‘the convenience for customers’ who want to make one-stop-drops at recycling centres.

“To help fulfill this mandate, the CVRD has added electronics such as televisions, computers, electronic toys, music equipment, medical monitoring control devices and more to the list of materials that can be recycled at Bings Creek and Peerless Road Recycling Centres,” the CVRD announced.

“Adding a stewardship program to enable more electronics to be accepted for recycling at CVRD facilities is something we have wanted to do for some time,” said Board Chair Jon Lefebure.

“Thanks to collaboration with Island Return It, the collection of additional electronics is now possible.”

All electronics will be recycled in accordance with the Electronic Product Recycling Association’s stewardship program, which ensures they are diverted from landfill and processed in a way that protects the environment as well as the health and safety of workers.

Meade Creek Recycling Centre will begin collection of electronics after upgrades to the centre have been completed in 2017 or 2018.
