‘No substantiation’ to rumours of threat to Vanier student safety

Rumours of a threat to G.P. Vanier Secondary student safety are unsubstantiated, according to school principal Charlie Schellinck

Rumours of a threat to G.P. Vanier Secondary student safety are unsubstantiated, according to school principal Charlie Schellinck.

“There has been some rumours circulating through the hallways of Vanier — and the RCMP and myself have been dealing with that through the week — and no substantiation of any threat to our students, so we’re keeping our students safe and sound as always,” Schellinck said Friday morning.

He added RCMP were at the school Friday because he invites them for lunch each year at this time, and he’s “very confident” the school is safe for students.

Schellinck noted the school remained open Friday and it is a “normal” last day of school before the winter break.

Schellinck added social media played a part in spreading the rumours.

“Social media has played on this where rumours start, and whenever we hear rumours or things written on bathroom walls we deal with it very seriously and we always involve the RCMP and our threat assessment team here at the school district,” he said.
