North Westside backs fire crew

North Westside Fire Rescue Society donates monitor nozzle to the North Westside Fire Department.

Fire protection for North Westside Road residents has been upgraded.

Fundraising by the North Westside Fire Rescue Society and public has led to a monitor nozzle being donated to the North Westside Fire Department.

“This nozzle is a large-bore, high-volume nozzle that is used for fighting a large fire,” said Jason Satterwaite, with the society.

“With this donation, the department now has this type of nozzle on each of its engine trucks.”

The society has raised funds at community events and through its annual summer barbecue at the La Casa Resort. In 2015, the barbecue raised $13,000.

“With the ongoing generosity of the community, the society has enjoyed substantial success,” said Satterwaite.

Also during 2015, the society donated four CPR training dolls worth $783 and 10 pairs of forestry boots for firefighters at $150 each.

Past contributions include donations towards the boathouse and generator and the boat lift.

“These valuable donations allow for purchases that are outside of the regular department equipment budget and are often specialized pieces of equipment,” sad Satterwaite.

“These additional equipment donations help to reduce the impact to the tax base while improving service.”
