Oak Bay police kept busy in past week or so

Calls range from hit and run to wheelbarrow and watch theft

Witness helps out

Oak Bay police are investigating a hit and run on the 2500-block of Epworth St. on Sept. 20.

A witness saw the offending vehicle reverse into a parked car and took down the licence plate before the driver left the scene. The licence plate was provided to the police who contacted the driver, who has since admitted to the collision.

Car cat-napper discovered

A driver discovered a man sleeping in his car, which he had left parked in the 2000-block of Cadboro Bay Rd. on Sept. 21. The owner woke the sleeping man up before calling police, and the man took off. The driver later discovered a small amount of damage inside the car.

The Oak Bay police encourage people to call them before engaging unfamiliar and potentially dangerous people in the interest of safety.

Squatters removed

Police were called-in to remove a group setting up camp on the deck of a coffee shop at Oak Bay Marina on Sept. 21.

Almost 15 cyclists and campers had refused to leave until police persuaded the group to move on. The same group was the subject of two additional complaints over the weekend.

Watch your wheelbarrow

Two notable items were reported stolen last week. A new wheelbarrow, valued at about $200, was taken from a backyard on the 2100-block of Windsor Rd. on Sept. 18 and a black Ironman watch, valued at $150, was stolen from the fitness studio at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre on Sept. 17.

Public intoxication

Oak Bay police arrested a 62-year old man for public intoxication on Foul Bay Road on Sept. 16. The man was reported drinking outside the liquor store and the police were called. He was taken to a cell to sober up.
