The people who teach at BC’s colleges and universities are running a fun education contest for people in B.C., and the prizes are amazing.
Current Okanagan College students are also eligible to win cash prizes equivalent to free winter tuition at the college, or one of three awards of $350, all provided by the members of the Okanagan College Faculty Association.
The provincial grand prize is rent paid for one year ($12,000), second place wins a vacation in the sun this winter ($4,500), and there are several honorable mention prizes of $1,000.
The provincial contest is open to anyone in B.C. with a story to tell about post-secondary education, but it is mostly students that are entering. The contest asks people to share their story—in writing, as an image, or an audio or video file—about going to college and university in B.C.
“Students are talking about some of the financial challenges they are facing with very large student debt loads,” said George Davison, president of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC. “Each person has a unique story—some of amazing success and others of real struggle.”
The education contest closes Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m. People can find out more and enter the contest through Open the Door’s website.
The local and provincial winners will be announced at a gala event, Nov. 17.
