Ombudsperson Jay Chalke will be speaking at the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (CFEC) in 100 Mile House on July 15.
This free information session runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., as part of the regular Ombudsperson tour to reach communities in British Columbia and includes educational outreach to community organizations.
CFEC program manager Chris Pettman says this session will provide folks with information about the role of the ombudsperson’s office and give them an opportunity to ask questions.
“When a lot of the social services deal with at-risk clients, perhaps they have been through a process that has been treating them unfairly, and they don’t know where to turn to have a review of that process done.”
Therefore, the information Chalke will offer at the CFEC session can be helpful not only to social-services organizations, but also for clients (including those of government agencies) to learn how to find the appropriate person to help them initiate a review, and hopefully find resolutions, he explains.
However, this session is not a forum to bring forth personal issues to Chalke, Pettman notes. (See story on Ombudsperson clinic on page A5.)
Pettman says Chalke will also answer questions about the complaint-resolution process, administrative fairness principles, or other guidance for staff at community service organizations.
